The Royal British Legion is the UK's leading charity safeguarding the welfare, interests and memory of those who are serving or have served in the Armed Forces.
It provides financial, social and emotional support to millions and it's benevolence spans all age groups from the oldest to the very young.
The Royal British Legion Bielefeld was founded by George Simpson with the first Meeting in 1992 held in the old Rochdale Bks. About 20 people showed up for this meeting and it grew from there to become one of the biggest branches in Germany. The first function was held in April 1993 and was a huge success. Other Meetings were held in Reeth Bks with a regular Games night being included. Eventually the RBL Bielefeld co-located with the S+A Club and we stayed in Catterick Bks for about two years. Unfortunately the contract run out and the RBL Bielefeld was desperate to find new premises. It was a hard and long struggle to find an appropriate location. It was with sheer guts and termination of the people to keep the Legion running even without premises. Letters were sent to the members keeping them informed about the situation reference the new premises.
The Branch then found new premises in what is now called Rochdale Bks (former Mossbank). The Branch moved first of all into the SGT Mess and stayed there until 1998 and were then given its current location: the old Naafi Bar in Rochdale Bks.
The Highlight of the Branches achievements was in the year 2000 when the RBL Bielefeld hosted the District Conference in the Rathaus in Bielefeld and a march through the town.

Die Royal British Legion Bielefeld wurde von George Simpson dem ersten Treffen im Jahr 1992 in den alten Rochdale Baracken gegründet. Etwa 20 Menschen kamen zu diesem Treffen, und sie wuchs von dort zu einer der größten Niederlassungen in Deutschland. Die erste Veranstaltung fand im April 1993 statt und war ein Riesenerfolg. Weitere Treffen fanden in den Reeth Baracken mit einem regelmäßigen Spieleabend statt. Schließlich arbeitete die RBL Bielefeld mit dem S + A-Club zusammen und wir blieben in den Catterick Baracken für etwa zwei Jahre. Leider ist der Vertrag ausgelaufen und die RBL Bielefeld war verzweifelt auf der Suche nach neuen Räumlichkeiten. Es war ein harter und langer Kampf, um einen geeigneten Standort zu finden. Es war der Mut und die Hingabe der Menschen, die Legion am Laufen zu halten, auch wenn keine Räume zur Verfügung standen. Briefe wurden an die Mitglieder verschickt um sie auf dem Laufenden zu halten was die Raumsuche anging.
Die Branch fand dann neue Räumlichkeiten in dem, was jetzt Rochdale Baracken (ehemals Mossbank Baracken) sind. Die Branch zog zunächst in die SGT Mess und blieb dort bis 1998 und wurde dann seinen aktuellen Räumlichkeiten zugeführt: Die alte Naafi Bar in den Rochdale Baracken.
Das Highlight der Leistungen der Branch war im Jahr 2000, als der RBL Bielefeld Gastgeber der Bezirkskonferenz im Rathaus in Bielefeld war und anschließend durch die Stadt marschierte.
